Welcome to The Freefill Project

One thing that sets Melbourne apart is the cafe culture. So many hidden lane-ways to explore and so many cafe lattes to drink! Welcome to The Freefill Project, an initiative that guides you to all of Melbourne's best cafes and helps reduce the amount of discarded plastic which ends up in the ocean.

How does it work? Bring a drink bottle or empty plastic bottle with you into the city (which you may have in your bag already) and go to one of our environmentally conscious cafes for lunch or for a drink.

Ask any of our cafes to fill up your empty water bottle with tap water. This reduces the number of plastic bottles being thrown out, saves you money and you get to enjoy the vibrant cafe culture Melbourne has to offer. Too Easy.

We are doing this because it just cant be ignored that there is an island of plastic floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, which measures the size of the Northern Territory, and growing. The plastic comes from all over the world and is trapped by the ocean currents. 80% of the debris originate from land, so there is a chance your discarded water bottle will end up contributing to this enormous environmental problem.

Stay tuned for cafe announcements...
